It is believed that Ram spent most of the time in Chhattisgarh during his fourteen years exile. Many places in Chhattisgarh also offer proof of this. One of them is the 'Sita Lekhani Hills'.
In an ancient and archaeological view this region of Chhattisgarh is very important. Here the dwelling place of primitive humans is known as Sita Lekhani. This place is situated in Surajpur district, about 200 km from Sarguja district headquarters Ambikapur, under forest cover in Kudurgarh. Here the ancient shailchitra (style) are also received along with the articles of the Shankha Scripts.
Regarding the Sita Lekhani Hills, there is a village recognition and hearsay that Lord Rama and Lakshman had settled near this mountain with mata Sita in this forest range during the exile. At that time this forest range was known as 'Dandkaranya'. In the pursuit of the routine, local forest dwellers used to help them. In this hill written in big letters from the ocher on all four sides. It is believed that on the hills here, Mata Sita has written with her hand, hence the name 'Sita Lekhani Hills'.
Archaeological significance
Human faced Sita Lekhani Hills have written in the Shankha script. Here, fishes, pigs, deer and other geometric shapes are also appear in the paintings (Shailchitra). It is known from this place that there has been residence of primitive humans also in this place. That's why this site is important from the archaeological point of view. Shankha script is one of the ancient scripts of the world. In this script, many inscriptions received in Java and Borneo have been received other than India. The name of this script is written as a Shankha (conch) script due to the artistic nature of the letter 'conch'. Unfortunately, this script has not been read yet. If this script can be read then we can be aware of important ancient information.
By Road: Sita Lekhani Hills is situated near village Mahuli in Kadurggarh forest range in the Bhabhana of Surajpur district, about 125 kilometers from Ambikapur. To reach this place, it is about 40 km from Bhaiyathan and Odgi Block from Ambikapur near village Mahuli. This place is wooded and picturesque. The distance of this place from the capital headquarters Raipur is approximately 475 kilometers. At this place, can be reached by its own means and taxi. Bus facility is available for Biharpur in the morning and evening.
By Train: The nearest railway station is the Ambikapur Railway Station.
