Maitri Bagh is one of the most beautiful garden and zoo in Chhattisgarh. This park is locate in Ispat City Bhilai in Durg district. The zoo comprises 111 acres (44.94 ha) of park lands.
Actually, Maitri Bagh is a "Friendship Garden" established as symbol of India - Russia (USSR) friendship. It was developed and maintained by Bhilai Steel Plant(BSP), SAIL. It was established in the year 1972.
Maitri Bagh offers a perfect setting for recreation. The country's biggest musical fountain adds to the beauty of Maitri Bagh that already boasts of well-laid lush lawns. Boating facilities in artificial lake, toy train and Pragati Minar offering a panoramic view of the steel plant and surroundings.
The toy train runs between 3 to 6 in evening and cost Rs.5. A tower referred to as Pragati Minar offers an admiring view of the whole park and the steel plant during 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
After rainy season October to January are the best time to visit. The park is open from 10 am to 5 pm, while the park is open till 7:30 pm. The musical fountains are operate from 7 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The entrance fee is 10 Rs. The zoo and park remain closed on Monday.
How to Reach Maitri Bagh Zoo
By Road: Bhilai is located in Durg district, Chhattisgarh at 40 km away from Raipur. Buses and taxis are available from Raipur. And from Power House, Bhilai it is 20 km away.
By Rail: Nearest railway station is Bhilai Power House, Bhilai. Then taxi and auto are available.
By Flight: Nearest airport is Swami Vivekanand Airport, Raipur which is well connected to domestic flights.
