Bastar is one of the district in Chhattisgarh and Jagadalpur is the headquarter. Jagdalpur is the tourism capital of Chhattisgarh and is the 4th largest city of the state. It is known for many nearby tourist attractions, greenery, dense forests, streams, waterfalls, caves, natural parks, natural resources, herbs, exuberant festivity and peaceful solitude.

1. Chitrakote waterfall : "The Niagara falls of India"


The Chitrakoot Falls is a natural waterfall located to the west of Jagdalpur, in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh on the Indravati River. The height of the falls is about 30 metres (98 ft). It is the widest fall in India, which is wide about 300 metres (980 ft). Because of its width and wide spread during the monsoon season, it is often called the Niagara Falls of India.

This spectacular fall is formed when the river indravati abruptly collapses into a 100 feet deep cavern. the mouth of the fall, when in full profusion, is over 1,000 feet wide. 2. Danteshwari temple, Dantewada : "Shri siddh shakti peeth".


It is located around 84 km (52 mi) from Jagdalpur city is 600 years old and the famous and sacred temple of Ma Danteshwari, a local goddess, worshiped as an incarnation of Shakti. This temple is believed to possess several divine powers. Every year during Bustar Dusshera thousands of tribals from surrounding villages and jungles gather here to pay homage to the goddess. 3. Kotamsar cave : "Most explored natural cave of India"


Kutumsar was discovered in 1993 and is well known for stalactite and stalagmite formations. This is India’s first and the world’s seventh underground cave, it is situated about 35 meters below to ground level and is about 1371 meters long.

The five chambers in the cave have several blind wells. The stalactites inside the cave is interesting to the scientists for experiments and arouses the curiosity of the visitors. Even no sunlight ever seems reach to the cave. The tribal people have many a tale woven into the history and mystery of the cave. This is known to be the worlds second longest natural cave. 4. Tirathgarh waterfall : "The milky fall"


Teerarthgarh Waterfalls is almost 32 kilometers away from Jagdalpur. It is one of the famous waterfalls that drops into Mugabahar River and every traveler wants to love to visit this place. Visitors will get an amazing view of falling sheets of water which fall from a height of approximately 50 meters of rocks. One can also visit old Shiv-Parvati temple here.

5. Barsur : "An ancient town"


Located on the banks of the Indrawati river, about 75 km (a one and a half to two-hour drive) to the south-west of Jagdalpur, Barsoor was once an epicenter of Hindu civilization. It is believed that there were once 147 temples and an equal number of ponds here.

It was known to be a "city of temples and ponds". Ruins of the temples are still there some are in good condition. Other famous temples are Mama-Bhanja temple, Battisa temple, Ganesha twin temple, Chandratiya temple etc. Although the biggest attraction here is the Ganesh Temple due to the size of the Ganesh idol which is 8 feet high and 17 feet wide.

6. Tamara ghoomar waterfall : "An untouched fall"


The Beautiful Tamra Ghoomar Falls is another natural wonder and a scenic spot near Chitrakoot. The natural beauty of the area featuring lush forested lands, deep valleys and magnificent hills add to the beauty of this place and attracts tourists towards it.

Tamra Ghoomar Waterfalls is located at around 45 km from Jagdalpur. It is very close to the Chitrakoot waterfall. 8. Akash nagar : "Top most peak of Bailadila mountain range"


Akash nagar is situated at the top most peak of Bailadila mountain range, which satisfies its name. It is a part of Bacheli, industrial area developed by NMDC. Take permission from NMDC to visit akash nagar and to see the mining process. It is famous for the iron ore and panoramic view of cloudy mountains. The ghat road which connects Bacheli to Akash nagar gives you a thrilling experience. Akash nagar was a village with some population but nowadays only mining activity is going on there so don't forget to see "The monster trucks", its like a double story building running at 40-70 kmph.

9. Dalpat Sagar Lake


Dalpat Sagar Lake is located in Jagdalpur Bastar Chhattisgarh in India on Indravati River which passes through Jagdalpur and spread over 350 hectares. . It is one of the biggest artificial lakes in Chhattisgarh. It was built by Raja Dalpat Deo Kakatiya over 400 years ago to harvest rain water. This lake is full of lotus and water lily.
