Hamar Chhattisgarh : The city of temples and ponds, barsur bastar

Barsur city is one of the ancient cities of Chhattisgarh. Barsur is located in Bastar Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. It is situated on the path of Bhopalpattanam, 16 kilometers (80 km from Jagadpur ) from Geedam, towards Indravati river. It was settled by the Gangavanshi ruler in 850 AD. King Baanasur is described in the Puranas, in his name the name of this city is Barsur. Baraur is a city of temples and ponds. Here are centuries old temples and waterfalls. Sometimes there were 147 temples and same 147 ponds, but today many temples have been broken and many ponds have dried up due to lack of maintenance.

Temples are just near the bus stand. There are five famous temples - an ancient Shiva temple located between the jungles, the Mama-Bhanja temple, Chandradeyaya temple, Ganesh temple and the Batista temple.

Mama-Bhanga Temple


'Mama-Bhanja Temple' is one of the famous tourist spots in Chhattisgarh. This temple is under the supervision of 'Archaeological Department of India'. This temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is known by the name of 'Mama-Bhanja' temple. It is said that Mama and Bhanja were two craftsmen who got the task of completing this temple in just one day. And they both built this temple in just one day.

Ganesh Temple


There are two giant statues of lord Ganesha built with sand stones, the large idol is about seven feet and tall and the second one is small just five and a half feet. Both statues are 'monolithic', that is, a large rock was made of cuttings, without any combination.
Where one Ganesh ji is hide the Laddu in his hand and the second Ganesh ji has already ate Laddu. It is the artist's artwork that he has shown the two ways of expression in the same stone.

The two idols of Ganesh in the same temple are unique. It is believed that thist is the third largest Ganesha statue in the world. It is said that this temple was built here by King Baanasur for his daughter.

Battisa Temple


Battisa means thirty-two 32 This temple has 32 columns. Large colored stones column crafted carefully in 4x8 rows. Outside the sanctuary - vey decorative gray Nand bull is situated and inside the sanctuary there is a very beautiful, undiscovered Shivlinga!


Shivaling was made of stone, and it was hinged on a large mechanical system. As the water mill rotates by the falling of water, just like the Shivaling was also rotated . And all this was made of stone. It was being rotated for several hundred years, and it was moving.

By Road: 16 kms away from Geedam (80 kms from Jagdalpur) is situated on the path of Bhopalpattanam. About 400 km from Raipur. There is a bus and taxi available from here.

By train: Nearest railway station is Jagdalpur railway station. Bus and taxi is available from here.

From the flight: 96 km by car from Jagdalpur Airport.
