Chhattisgarhi festival: Khamarchhath Desire of longevity


In Chhattisgarh, Khamrkhath (Halashasti) is a unique festival to be made for the mothers. Halhshthi is also known as halaktha, Kamarshath or Khamarkhatha. This festival is celebrated six days after the Raksha Bandhan on the sixth date of the Krishna Paksha of the Bhadrapad month. Mothers keep this fast by keeping the long and happy life of the children. On this day, mother accepts food grown without solution.

The mythology about this fast is that in Dwapar era, when 6 sons of Vasudev-Devaki were killed in a jail by Kams one by one. And when the time of the birth of the seventh child came nearer, Devshi Narad ji advised Devki to fast for the halashshthi devi. Devaki first performed this fast, with the effect of protecting their future children. Since then, this fast every mother does this for the sake of the prosperity and happiness of her children.

On this day, the mothers take the fasting of Mahua tree in the morning and take a fast while bathing. Bhees drink tea of ​​milk and after two pm, in the courtyard of the house, two pit (artificial ponds) are dug at the Temple-Deity or Chowpal etc. of the village, which is filled in the water which is called the whole. The water of the sea is a symbol of life. In the crossing of the pond, decorate the plum, palash, guular etc. with the twigs of trees and flowers of Kashi. Sagari is worshiped by keeping small idols of Radha-Krishna, Ganesh, and Shankar-Parvati in it. Gauri-Ganesh, a pole in front of a chowki or pate in front of the idol of Hanushshi Devi (by making an idol from Sandur in the ghee of Bharaj), they worship them. After worshiping, Vrati Mata breaks her fast using Pashar Chaval (a kind of rice without grinding), milk, curd, ghee (of buffalo), using 6 types of vegetables in the food.
On this day, fasting mothers do not even go to solve places. After worship in this vow, the mother wipes her grandson (her new piece of cloth - which is soaked with turmeric water) near her waist in the backyard of her child, and pushes her from the spheres, which is a symbol of the protective armor given by the mother.
